The group was formed in the late 1970s in Manchester, England, and consisted of Ian Curtis on vocals, Bernard Albrecht (also known as Sumner or Dicken) on guitar, Peter Hook on bass, and Stephen Morris on drums. Hook, Albrecht, and Curtis met at a local concert and later formed the group Warsaw. The band’s name was taken from a composition by David Bowie and Brian Eno, “Warszawa.”

The five bonus tracks on this album are demos recorded by the group on July 18, 1977, at Pennine Studios in Manchester, with Steve Brotherdale on drums. The first eleven tracks presented here were the result of a recording session for that album, which took place in early May 1978.

Rehearsals leading up to the session resulted in two new songs being added to the group’s existing repertoire: “Interzone” and “Transmission.” “Interzone” was based on the backing track of the song “Keep On Keepin’ On,” to which the band added their own lyrics, creating a track that was entirely their own. “Transmission” was written by the band during the final week of rehearsals; its first verse contains a quotation from Aleister Crowley’s The Book of Thoth.

Both recordings are fascinating early versions of songs that would later become famous.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0259/9403/5259/files/Warsaw-Warsaw_fc103740-a3bb-42f6-8986-f233ef2d5607.jpg?v=1759967208
