Over the winding roads of indie pop, through the alleyways of the Dutch levenslied, and along the side streets of rock and electronic music, WIES walks a path entirely its own. WIES is a musical jawbreaker, known for songs like Soms Is Het Te Laat, Meisje, and Venus. Colorful on the outside, with influences from punk and electronic music and a grand, expansive sound. But there’s also a deeper layer: a serious and sensitive core, with thoughtful lyrics that truly mean something. By now, the question “What is WIES?” is irrelevant. Anyone who has experienced WIES understands.
In spring 2026, the trio returns with their long-awaited third studio album ‘AH!’: a collage of a quarter-life crisis. About finding and losing friendships and love, about worries and dilemmas that dance around life itself. Musically, WIES pushes even further toward a rougher edge. With new band member Teun van der Maarel on bass and keys, the band’s sound deepens: more layered, more exciting, yet unmistakably WIES. The result is an album that moves effortlessly between small and intimate moments and grand, sweeping ones, as already heard in singles like Drijfzand and Ik Geloof Dat Wij Iets Delen. A new chapter of WIES will take the stage this year: AH!
