Greatest Hits compilation — the first time a complete career overview of The Fall has been available on vinyl.
• When the CD was originally released, it was regarded as the most comprehensive and best collection of the band’s recorded work, and it remains unsurpassed to this day.
• Like the other Fall reissues, it has been compiled by Daryl Easlea (who also wrote the liner notes) in collaboration with Fall expert Conway Patton, mastered by longtime engineer Andy Pearce, and features artwork by Becky Stewart.
The Fall were an English post-punk band formed in Manchester in 1976. The group existed in various lineups until 2018, built around founder and sole constant member Mark E. Smith. Initially associated with the late-1970s punk movement, the band’s music evolved through many stylistic changes over the years, often marked by abrasive guitar sounds and heavy use of repetition, always anchored by Smith’s distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.
The Fall were known for their prolific output, releasing more than 25 studio albums — and over three times that number when counting live and other releases. While they never achieved major mainstream success, apart from a handful of minor hit singles, they earned a dedicated following and critical acclaim. The band maintained a long-standing relationship with BBC DJ John Peel, who championed them early in their career and famously described them as: “They are always different; they are always the same.”
