Robben Ford - Bringing It Back Home

The all-star lineup on Bringing It Back Home features organist Larry Goldings, drummer Harvey Mason, bassist David Piltch, and trombonist Steve Baxter. Guitar giant Robben Ford’s new album Bringing It Back Home is a stunning study in soul, style, and virtuosity that strikes the listener with its exceptional, deeply emotional musicality. The album also returns the five-time Grammy–nominated stage and studio legend to his earliest roots as an artist, when he played the blues.

Ford, named one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician Magazine, built his reputation in the jazz and pop worlds of the 1970s and ’80s as a solo artist, as a member of the groundbreaking fusion group L.A. Express, and as a sideman for Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, and others. But his journey began in Northern California in the 1960s as part of the Charles Ford Blues Band. In that group—formed with his brothers and named after their father—he backed blues legends Jimmy Witherspoon and Charlie Musselwhite, gaining a hands-on education in the style.

Bringing It Back Home returns to the source of Ford’s first musical love. The guitar king selected ten songs from throughout blues history, ranging from “Bird’s Nest Bound” by early Delta pioneer Charley Patton to Bob Dylan’s “You Go Your Way and I Go Mine.” Working with a carefully chosen team of top musicians, he created dynamic, fresh, and highly original studio arrangements for each track.
