Big Big Train - Woodcut

Big Big Train, the award-winning progressive rock band, will release their 16th studio album on February 6, 2026. Woodcut is a milestone release for the international group, whose lineup brings together members from England, Scotland, Italy, the US, Sweden, and Norway. It is their very first fully conceptual work.

“The story doesn’t take place in a specific time period, but it’s about The Artist, who is struggling with life,” begins founder Gregory Spawton. “He goes for a walk and finds this piece of heartwood and creates something he finds beautiful and different. Maybe it’s a dream or maybe it’s real life, but he enters this Narnia-like woodcut world.”

Woodcut, a more band-oriented album, features all seven members delivering stunning contributions, with frontman Alberto Bravin serving as producer: “This time it’s a kind of new statement for the band. Woodcut is a big step forward for us,” he notes.

The album features a striking cover design by Dorset-based artist Robin Mackenzie — a black-and-white woodcut, of course, based on an original woodcut the band commissioned from him specifically for the album. It will be available as a limited CD + Blu-ray edition, including extensive liner notes and Dolby Atmos & 5.1 Surround Sound mixes by Shawn Dealey of Sweetwater Studios. The record will also be released as a beautiful gatefold 180g 2LP with special embossed sleeve, as well as a standard CD jewel case.
