Info

Recovering the Satellites is the second studio album by American rock band Counting Crows. Released three years (and two years of worldwide touring) after their debut album, it reached number one in the United States and was also a bestseller in Australia, Canada, and the UK. Vocalist Adam Duritz considered it his favorite Counting Crows album for many years.

In addition to Duritz, the band lineup included David Bryson (guitar), Charlie Gillingham (keyboards), and Matt Malley (bass), along with new members Ben Mize (drums) and Dan Vickrey (guitar). Multi-instrumentalist David Immerglück also contributed to the album as a session musician. Counting Crows brought in producer Gil Norton for Recovering the Satellites (the song “Miller’s Angels” was produced by Marvin Etzioni).

Three singles were released from the album, with “A Long December” becoming the biggest hit, reaching number 6 in the U.S. and number 1 in Canada. The album itself peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum in both the U.S. and Canada.
