Sufjan Stevens - Javelin

With every new Sufjan Stevens album, the most difficult promotional task is the character of the record and its interpretation. Is it an inaccessible experimental record like the one he releases every year?Or one on the level of 'Illinois', 'Seven Swans', 'Michigan', 'Carrie & Lowell'?It confirms Sufjan's versatility, but especially the number of monumental bestsellers he has created...Sufjan Stevens has blurred distinctions between the major and the minor, between the details that color our existence and the big events that frame our lives.'Javelin' will surely join his list of accessible pop albums.Just like on 'Carrie & Lowell', Sufjan is in the singer-songwriter position. And his insane creativity is underlined by the artwork with an awful lot of self-made collages and even ten short stories.

Armand Hammer - We Buy Diabetic Test Strips

Armand Hammer's album "We Buy Diabetic Test Strips" showcases the talents of rappers Billy Woods and Elucid. The album's title draws its inspiration from the innumerable signs posted on poles around New York City's outer boroughs, a symptom of America's prohibitively expensive healthcare system. This album is filled with dazzling, bleak verses over backings that defy categorisation. It features vinyl crackle, digital wizardry, and industrial clanks, conjured up by the likes of Kenny Segal, El-P, DJ Haram, and the relentlessly inventive Jpegmafia. "We Buy Diabetic Test Strips" also includes graceful, jazz-flecked live instrumentation, including Shabaka Hutchings on flute, and abounds with guest vocalists. It is a testament to their ability to contemplate their inevitable end, often graphically, yet manage to stave off hopelessness. They process life's indignities with absurdist humor and a caustic wit, telling disjointed stories through intersecting narratives that only come into focus when viewed as a whole. The album is collectively driven, grim but never nihilistic, and serves as a flare-up to fight off the disease.

Anohni & The Johnsons - My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross

As the British-born, New York-based artist’s first full album since 2016’s HOPELESSNESS, ANOHNI explains that the creative process was painstaking, yet also inspired, joyful, and intimate, a renewal and a renaming of her response to the world as she sees it. A record its creator acknowledges is inextricably both personal and political, and one that is full of heartfelt music that also questions its own right to be heard, My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross demonstrates music’s unique capacity to bring harmony to competing, sometimes contradictory, elements.

softscars - yeule

Multi-dimensional artist and producer yeule announces their new album softscars arriving September 22nd via Ninja Tune. softscars represents a new direction for yeule as they explore softer textures and disembodied arrangements that feature their ethereal vocals front and center. The project closely examines the anatomy of their long held emotional wounds for their most vulnerable work yet. Though its subject matter is heavy and arcane, there is a sense of joyful catharsis that emanates throughout the project. Driving it along is yeule’s shape shifting vocals, sounding more assured than ever in all of its jagged edges and haunting whispers, relaying the imperfect process of healing.

Actress - LXXXVIII

‘LXXXVIII’ pays dividends to meditate on an instrumental facet of its creation: game theory. Indeed, deep strategic thinking – more readily associated with economics and chess than artistic practice – was fundamental to Actress’ process as ‘LXXXVIII’ was channelled into existence. ‘LXXXVIII’ includes the recent avant-garde-influenced single “Push Power ( a 1 )”, a track which laid the groundwork for the coming album, acting as the first move in an intricate chess game. With each thoughtful move the game grows and develops over time - something we can hear reflected in the textured and delicate layers of the track. "( a 1 ) - The first move" comments Cunningham. Today he shares “Game Over ( e 1 )”, a new single from the album which signals the final, closing move.

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You

Caroline Polachek's second solo album, 'Desire, I Want To Turn Into You', is a testament to her impressive musical prowess and versatility. The album is a blend of pop, science, and emotion, showcasing Polachek's ability to flip the concept of the "perfect pop song" in unexpected ways. The album opens with Polachek's soaring soprano, setting the tone for the rest of the album. It showcases her ability to depict a crush of thoughts and feelings, and her lyrics often reflect on the cultural milieu of the 2020s. The album is filled with a mix of genres, from trip-hop to new wave, trance to flamenco, demonstrating Polachek's innate understanding of the pop archive. It is also noted for its experimental nature, with Polachek pushing and pulling a cacophony of textures stitched together by her mercurial vocals. The album's title, 'Desire, I Want To Turn Into You', suggests a violent, all-or-nothing immersion, with the prospect of losing one's own selfhood implicit in the wish. 'Desire, I Want To Turn Into You' is a bold and adventurous album that showcases Polachek's versatility and musical prowess. It is a testament to her ability to experiment and push boundaries within the pop genre.

Jaimie Branch - Fly or Die Fly or Die Fly or Die ((world war))

In July of 2022, just one month before jaimie branch’s death sent shockwaves around the world, the trumpet player and composer was in Chicago at International Anthem studios putting finishing touches on an album. It was a suite of music she had composed and then recorded with her flagship ensemble, Fly or Die, over the course of a residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska. In her wake, the album was near complete, with only mixing tweaks, final titles, and artwork to be fully realized. In the months following, her family (led by sister Kate Branch), her band (Jason Ajemian, Lester St. Louis, and Chad Taylor), and her collaborators at IARC banded together to gather memories, texts, emails, photographs, artwork and fragments belonging to jaimie to light the path forward. The goal was always to do what jaimie would have done. Packaged in stunning artwork by John Herndon, Damon Locks, and branch herself, Fly or Die Fly or Die Fly or Die ((world war)) is jaimie’s final album with her Fly or Die quartet.
