The Unutterable was originally released in 2000 and was the band’s 21st studio album. This double vinyl reissue is released in celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Fall’s acclaimed classic and is accompanied by an extensive 4-CD box set.
The Fall is an English post-punk band, formed in Manchester in 1976. The band has existed in various forms ever since, essentially built around founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. Originally associated with the late-’70s punk movement, the group’s music has undergone various stylistic changes over the years but is often characterized by a gritty guitar sound and frequent use of repetition, always underpinned by Smith’s distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.
The band is known for its prolific output, having released more than 25 studio albums, along with more than three times as many live albums and other releases. While they never achieved major commercial success—aside from a handful of minor hits in the late ’80s—they have maintained a strong cult following. The band was long associated with BBC DJ John Peel, who supported them early in their career and called The Fall his favorite band, famously saying: “They are always different; they are always the same.”
